The Inter –School chess competition for girls was hosted at our school and it was an exciting and intellectually stimulating event that brought together students from carious grades to showcase their strategic prowess and critical thinking skills. The tournament aimed to promote chess as a mind- enriching activity and foster healthy competition among the participants.

PARTICIPANTS

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across different age group and skills levels students from grade 3to  12 were eligible to take part under the various divisions (U-11, U-14, U-17, U-19) around 16 schools in and around Coonoor registered themselves for the grand event. The competiton was scheduled for two days.

On day one, the competition began at 10.00 a.m. with the arrival of the chief guest. Mr,K Govindan, coordinator of sports department at Riverside Public School, Kotagiri and a member of the NDCA, was the esteemed chief guest of the occasion. The day began with a welcome speech followed by the chief guest introduction by the Emcees. He was honored with a bouquet and a small token of love, then the ceremonial lamp was light by our Principal , Rev Sr. Avia Vaz, followed by the chief guest. It was then lit by Mr.Vivek, secretary of NDCA and the head girl of HISJC , V. Anugraha . Finally Mr. Janrthan, senior faculty member lit the lamp. This was followed by a prayer by Miss.Rikki, the sports captain. The school choir sang a prayer song and then a powerpoint presentation about the history of the school was shown to the audience.

Then came the much awaited moment of the day . To start it, Mr. Vivek secretary of the NDCA , told the rules and regulations of the game to all the contestants subsequently the chief guest and our principal made their first move and started the chess competition. The chess journey began on day 1 and was to be continued on the next day.

During the recess, tea and snacks were served to all the staff members and students of various institutions.
